Ok I agree to be honest and gentlemanly about this contest. Ok! First Question!
Robbie Baldwin lost almost a year of his life in the kinetic dimension, What was the original name of the man inside the speedy clone?
What year was Darion from?
Who was Number one on speedballs top ten list of baddies, evil-dooers and neer-do-wells?
Oooh...That's a good one. I remember the Top Ten list you're referring to (it's in the second New Warriors Annual, I think). I know the actual super-villain who was on the top of the list was Tai, but you probably want the teacher that he put in the top spot. How specific do you want? It was either his math or history teacher, but I'm not going to be able to give you a name without looking...
Okay, if my answer isn't good enough for you, then you need to answer this, or it's a push...
What Spider-Man villain did Speedball fight and lose to before joining the New Warriors?
I guess that answer is ok I didn't ask for a name but I think you should decide math or history.
The answer to your question is Dr. Octopus
In the old speedball series what was the name of the martial arts movie star that speedball fought with at a school assembly?
I'm pretty sure that math was the teacher on his villains list, and history was the teacher he mentioned in New Warriors #3
, when he went on his "Tell me if I'm rambling" ramble. But, I may have those two switched...
Hmmmm...Let's see...I can remember this...It was in Speedball #3
, with Leaper Logan on the cover, and the name was an obvious Chuck Norris rip-off/homage...I think it was Chick Harris or something equally horrendous.
Okay...Now, you're obviously going for the jugular here. Time to pull out the hard questions. What was the villain that Speedball fought in his first published appearance?
I belive that it was the high evolutionary's purifiers. Or it was Johnny Roarke. They both came out at the same time I think.. (god I wish I was older) I will go with the purifiers.
Ok who was robbie's first date with?
Ah-ha! That's wrong...Before either one of those were published, Speedball had a solo story in Marvel Age Annual #4
, where he fought the evil Crooked Face.
You keep asking me real names of people...I can barely keep the people in my own lives straight, let alone the names of people who made one appearance in one issue of Marvel Super Stories...I can picture her perfectly, she's in a wheelchair, she's dark-skinned, small afro, she's from Wakanda, she had an accident with some radioactive Vibranium...Oh, wait. That was the first person he ever fell in love with...He had half a date that was interrupted the night of prom...It wasn't with Teri, who he wanted to go out with...It was some girl who only made one appearance. She had a rich dad, and the date was interrupted by gunmen. But, seriously, for the life of me, I can't remember a name...Can we please stop with the name questions? Like I said, I'm really bad with names in my real life...Have been ever since a bike accident I got into in 10th grade...Super-hero and super-villain names are okay, because they are descriptive, but names of people who only made one appearance, I'm just not going to be able to answer, and to me doesn't show a depth of knowledge about Speedball, just that you can memorize names...
Anyways, here's my next question, since we seemed to have pushed on that round...
What were Robbie's first two jobs?
Ok I dont think im going to win here. Ok I think It was hammond labs and The internship. The warriors don't count, he didnt get paid
Ah, but where was the internship? It was a specific company, and it was most definitely mentioned in print.
If you can get that, I'll let you ask the next question. Otherwise, I'm thinking that I can declare myself the winner.
World's Biggest Speedball fan
Nooooo! I think this is it folks! I am going to say he was an intern for Secret Hospital. AHHHH I don't know! I should at least get honorable mention for being Worlds Second Biggest Speedball Fan
Fair enough, but you really need to pick up the Damage Control miniseries...You gave it a good shot, though. We should talk in email, so you can tell me what Speedball appearances you have, and I can tell you which ones you're missing...
Triumphant in his geekdom...

Re: Geek Duel
Yay! You won the geek duel! I've been a (n appropriately quiet) geek cheerleader.
As your king (being the Patron Saint of Comic Books that I am) I hereby dub you Master of All Things Speedballian, mostly for the fact that I'm amazed that there was any question about your expertise.

There are more of us than you'd think...
There are plenty of Speedball fans out there, I get emails from them all the time. But, this is the first time someone tried to take away my title as "World's Biggest Speedball Fan." But, the title remains intact. And I have you, Mikester, to thank for originally getting me into Speedball in the first place...("I'll give you all ten issues for $6.00," I believe you said...)
Dave, you scare me.
I think you dropped your name to early, it's 2001 and you go by Kurt! THIS SUCKS... oh well...

Re: :::Trying to express myself, stunned:::
Ooh, yet another reason to not go by Dave. No 2001 references! Yay!
Most excellent challenge!
Did you catch Speedball's recent appearance in Alias, btw?
Of course! Frightening as it may sound, I actually double-check all of Marvel's output each week, just in case Speedball makes an appearance.
I already get Alias regularly anyways, so no extra money was spent on that one, but I've had to buy all sorts of out there books to keep my complete Speedball collection up to date...
Excellent. :) I'm a huge Bedis fan, so of course I get Alias
- and I was thoroughly amused to see Speedball, having been a New Warriors
fan back in the day. Definitely not the #1
Speedball fan, though; that crown is indubitably yours!

Here's a Speedball question
What in the name of Jesus fried cheese was up with that trenchcoat Speedball was wearing for a while? I mean ew.

Re: Here's a Speedball question
He really only wore it for one story arc, but that arc happened to be the one that crossed over with X-Force, and so was pretty much the only New Warriors story that got publicized by Marvel at all, which is why Trenchcoat Mafia Speedball is seen so often.
As for why he wore it, it was offered to him by Rage (even though it was Nova's trench...) right after Speedball first changed his costume. And Robbie thought it looked cool...I went through the same thing when I was 15. I wore a trenchcoat that a friend had given me nearly every day, no matter how hot it was outside, because I thought it made me look cool. It was a realistic teenage act...
