Gimme a Beat! [Aug. 7th, 2002|03:08 pm]

Ow! Ow! Ow! I said a beat, not a beating...

As you might be able to tell, this entry has to do with music. Specifically, I want to make a mix CD for Amy. She made a really cool one for me, and I would like to return the favor.

Her CD included songs that were, in one way or another, related to bands or subjects that we've discussed, or relate to us in some other way. For instance, one of the songs on her CD is "Ten Years Later" by Collective Soul. Another song on there is a cover of "Take on Me," since we had discussed a-ha in one of our phone conversations. The CD is filled out with various silly songs, which Amy has mentioned on more than one occasion having a fondness for.

I know I want to include at least one Matthew Sweet song. I also want to open the CD with "Blister in the Sun" by Violent Femmes (it's used heavily in Gross Pointe Blank), and somewhere in there I want to have "Silo Lullaby" by Toad the Wet Sprocket (it's a song from the point of view of the person in the missle silo who has the responsibility of pushing the button, if necessary, which is what her roommate is currently training to do...)

I know that none of you know Amy as well as I do so far, but I'd love to hear some ideas from you, based on what you do know...

She's Airforce

She's Airforce, so you have all kinds of things to play with... you know I suck at music, and I'm likely messing this part up but you could go with Rocketman, or I'll Fly Away, or Major Tom, or... LOL Maybe a soundclip from the Thunderbirds? (Wasn't that the campy english puppet sci-fi show? Thunderbirds is also the name of the Air Force's exhibithion squadron... I think).

Air Force One - Kurt Zero

I think you're wrong about the Thunderbirds being the Air Force exhibition squadron, but a little Google search tells me that I'm wrong, and you're right.

Hmmm. Not a soundclip, but if I can find the Thunderbirds opening theme, that might work.

Cool. Thanks...

Rank

Theme from 'Officer and a Gentleman'.

Come on, that's funny... admit it...

Kiss Me

Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer.

I have it on excellent authority that she loves the song. She probably already has it, but including it might be fun.

Yes, she probably has it...

One of the songs that she included on the mix CD she gave me was a different Sixpence song, so she probably has their biggest hit, but I'll definitely consider it...

I'm really curious what "excellent authority" you have, Mr. or Ms. Anonymous...

She has her pack of friends.

Remember she has her pack of friends too. It's not like you really hide this journal, but everyone does want to know- what is 'Speedball'?

Speedball - The Masked Marvel

You're right, I do make very little effort to hide this journal. In fact, it's become more and more public ever since the Worms incident (which I never actually did write about, but which you can read in its entirety here. (The link works for now, but with Dr. Lobster you never know when it's going to go away, so visit quickly if you're going to...)

Always glad to have more readers these days, especially those who have additional insight into the important people in my life, which Amy definitely qualifies for. If you'd like to have your own free LiveJournal account, so you can stop posting semi-anonymously, fellow Verizon DSL user, let me know and I'll get you an invite code...

As for Speedball, it's not a reference to the heroin/cocaine combination. No, it's a reference to the fact that I'm a huge comic book geek. Speedball is my favorite superhero ever. To the point of even creating his own home page (although I haven't updated it in ages...). I am still the World's Biggest Speedball Fan, however.
