DSL still not active... [May. 7th, 2003|11:47 pm]

Man, dial-up is frustrating. But, even without the high speed connection, I felt like writing down my thoughts. So, here I am.

AOKP had their annual election for various regency positions recently. Last year I was Duke (aka Premier, similar to the vice-president for those unfamiliar with the group). This year I decided to run for King (yes, King/Queen is an elected position, just like on Naboo). Having been Duke to a Queen who was absent quite often, I felt very ready to take on the position, and felt I would do a good job. But, it was not to be. I'm disappointed, but I think Seth will do a good job with the position. It will take quite a bit of tweaking for his character to fit the role, but I know he has plans for that. I wish him nothing but the best (as opposed to some former Sovereign candidates...).

The other big news, is that I've moved. (That was quickly skimmed over in my last post) I live in a house that Reed (my roommate at the apartment I was at before this...) bought. My bedroom here is a little bigger than the old one, and I have access to more storage space, which should allow me to be not quite so cramped as I was before. Yay!

Other than that, things are going well. Tutoring job continues apace, although my hours will probably dip down for the next couple of weeks in between AP Tests and Summer Session. But, it doesn't look like it will be too bad.

Yeah, it should be interesting playing second-fiddle to Seth. At least if he decides to up and off any peasants for mouthing off, he'll have to jump over the table or something in order to do it. :)

How will he stand being in Court all night, week after week, as the same character? And the same character that isn't Thomas Moore? Not that I'll complain if he doesn't, of course..... ;)

It'll be weird not having him run stories, since he was running close to half of the stories this past season. I can totally see Hans stepping up to take his place, though. He already has in a lot of ways.

I do think you would have been a good sovereign, but Seth is a hard one to beat in the popularity category. This is also his last year at Whittier, which probably had something to do with the decision to elect him. I don't know if he plans on moving back to Florida after graduation, but it wouldn't suprise me if he did.

My suggestion to you, if you plan on running for sovereign again next year, is to remain as active in Court as possible. Go out for a second position, and be very vocal with your opinions and proactive in problem solving.

And I still plan on running for sovereign next year, just so you know. :D

Yeah, but if I have to put up with another long, drawn out, terribly paced story like the silver sword people one, I will have to assasinate Hans in his sleep. My goal is to steer his character away from "kil, kill, kill!". Of course, mine is "drink, drink, drink!", so it's not much of an improvement.

I believe Seth was moving to Northern CA after graduation.

I think it'll be really funny if Mordecai's reign was the most peaceful ever...no wars, not much death...

In my experience, the best stories last from one to three months. Seth and Nate come from a stretch of time in AOKP where there weren't really any stories going on, and certainly no one who was willing to teach newcomers how to do them properly. I'm not saying that I'm one of those people, but I do think that storytelling is something that should be discussed with people once they express an interest in it. I used to try and do that, but it never seemed to do any good. I was glad to see Thomas include that in his seneschal lessons, since it is a part of AOKP.

Even though I am a regent, I'll be running at least one plotline over the next year. It's been a while, but I think I've learned a lot by observing others. I guess we'll see about that.

Remember, the sovereign race is always about who's the hairiest - not who really has the hairiest body, but who is perceived as having the most hair.

* * *
I'm not going to tell you what that means in terms of Kyria and I running together. But read between the lines, young sieurs, just read 'em and weep...
* * *
It also explains why Neil had to usurp the throne through his puppet Symmarok.

* * *
Aekien? Think Wolverine. Mordecan? A wiry badger. I could go on all night. Dread Queen Quinthevia? O-rang-u-tan.

* * *
Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

The rise and fall of government...

Ah... another regency. Its always interesting to se how things pan out. The new guys have their work cut out for them but I think they'll do well. I just hope that they will show up regularly. Not that I will... but hey I don't have a position. :-)

As far as stories go, yeah... some can drag, but I think its how you tell the story that makes it exciting. If you tell it all herky jerky with confusing characters, no one will have fun. I have always found that if you get people personally involved, they will enjoy it. Most people feel that they're just sitting there watchin' stuff happen, but if you start plucking people outta the crowd, suddenly they're invested. But each person has their own way of doing things. I haven't really ran a story in a while though. Maybe I should. I've been talking about changing some stuff around...
