Playing catch-up (Pt. 2) [Feb. 8th, 2004|04:35 pm]

I really need to get myself back into the writing groove. So, last time, I let you know about my pets no longer being with me. Today, it's time to catch you up on work-related things. First off, I lost my job as a teacher/tutor (hmmm, I need to update my info page...) back in November. I got a couple of temp gigs here and there over the next couple of months, but really not enough to pay my bills. So, I depended greatly on the kindness of strangers...I mean, my parents (same thing). December's rent was paid with my final paycheck from Spotlight, then January's rent was paid for using the Christmas gift I got from Mom and Dad. And for February, I had to take a "loan" from them...Not a fun prospect, but necessary.

The good news is, though, is that I finally have a permanent job again. Well, technically it's still a temp job, but it's temp to perm, and they already seem to be impressed with how I'm doing, so I should be good to go. I'm working with technomonkey again, this time at a background verification service, mostly calling up former employers of people to make sure they actually worked where they said they did. It's not something I want to do for a career, but it should keep me going while I go back to school, and finish up my Bachelor's degree, then get my second Bachelor's.

Yes, that's right, going back to school finally. My parents, in addition to bailing me out of being evicted, also paid for me to go see a career counselor, in order to figure out what it is exactly that I want to do with my life. For those of you who know me, it probably wasn't a huge surprise that I came out of it deciding that I want to be a copy editor. But, in order to do that, I need to get a degree in Journalism, English, or something similar. So, I've talked to CSUN to find out what I need to graduate, and it turns out to be 7 units (although, I may be able to waive some of that...), plus a writing proficiency exam. Of course, that degree will be in Math, so then I need to go back and get a degree in Journalism, most likely at Cal Poly Pomona, or Cal State Fullerton, since those are much closer to where I live these days.

So, I've kind of spent the last couple of months in limbo, but I've finally got a plan, and making progress towards making it a reality. And having a job again will be nice as soon as those paychecks start coming in again...I've got months worth of comics waiting for me patiently at Metropolis Comics, and I'm looking forward to clearing those out...

I'm glad to hear that you are working again, and doubly glad to hear that you have a longterm career goal in mind. I hope that it works out for you.

I think it's great that you'll be finishing your degree and moving into an area that I feel you have a lot of talent for! You'll do great... :)
