Catching up (long overdue...) [Apr. 17th, 2005|03:36 pm]

So, a lot has happened since the last time I wrote a "meaningful" entry (i.e., not a meme). Going in chronological order:

I was fired from my previous job. A 7:30am arrival time in Long Beach coming from Anaheim just was not possible for me on a regular enough interval for them. Getting there 5-10 minutes late was just too much for them to handle. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I called in sick, having thrown up a liquid that looked enough like blood to really scare me the night before. They called me back and told me not to bother coming back in again. As you can tell, I'm still a little bitter about how I lost that job, but it worked out in the end, as I...

Got a new job. I'm now working as a copy editor/word processor/administrative assistant (that last one is only until the regular admin asst. comes back from maternity leave) for an environmental assessment company. They check sites (usually that are up for sale, or about to be developed in some significant fashion) for any environmental concerns (anything that may have leaked, stained, or otherwise caused problems for the next people to use the space), and write a report. I transcribe the tapes made during the site walk, which are then used to write the report. Once the report is written, I check it over for grammar, spelling, and consistency. It's much better for me in a number of ways. Most importantly, it gets me experience as a copy editor, which is necessary for me to actually get my dream job. The people that I have to report to are much more understanding and easier to get along with. And, in a nice comparison to my previous job, I'm considered "on time" for work as long as I arrive any time between 8:30 and 9:00am. And, to top all of that off, it pays better than my last job, as well. I'm very happy there. I don't see myself making this job my career, but until I get to my career-defining job, this is a great place to work and gain experience. And it wasn't long after getting that job that I...

Got a girlfriend. Her name is Myra (aka silverlily81), and as you can see, things are going very well. Our first official date was February 5th, when we went to mcdandmps's wedding. Before that, we knew there was something there, but didn't want to act on it until she was officially split from her ex. I won't say our relationship is perfect. Every real relationship has some issues. Most of ours at the moment stem from other people talking about our relationship and when they think it really started...I try to just ignore that sort of thing and let people think what they want to think, and trust that my true friends will see how happy Myra and are to be together, and will be happy for us. Myra has a harder time ignoring that sort of talk, however, which is understandable, since it puts her in a more unfavorable light. Hopefully, people will find something more interesting to gossip about soon, and we can put this behind us. I think things will be better once we...

Move into a new place. For a number of reasons, (which will not change no matter how much I talk to my "landlord", some of which ties into the second half of the previous paragraph), I've become unhappy in my current living situation. So, I will be moving in together with Myra when escrow on her new (our?) house closes, which should be in the next couple of weeks. Since she sold her old house, she's been living in my room, which has been great, and it'll be even better when it's "our" room.

I think that pretty much covers everything big that's happened in my life for the most part. Hopefully, I can keep you guys up to date on what's going on in my life on a more regular basis. I miss writing here on a daily (or near-daily) basis. Although, it is nice no longer being the guy that constantly asks for relationship advice...

One always gets worried when someone drops off the face of the earth, fun though the dropping is...
BTW - not to encourage gossip or anything, but I would love the story on what happened to the ex. Seriously, the last time I saw your girl before my party she was with said ex and using the "M" word. These thing happen and all, but the juicy details are fun! E-mail me!

Just starting to? But yeah I concur that a little more zando presence and long hair would be useful in the court if you're around. Very cool on the job and such also.

Always good to know that you're as unbelievably happy as I am. And I agree that it will be even better when we have "our" room, though you always make me feel quite welcome.

Wow, I can't believe I screwed up that link. And now I can't find the right place that it was supposed to link to. But, to answer your question, my dream job is copy editor for a publishing house, preferably working on fiction books.
