You'll notice as you enter the freeway that there is a solid white line that separates your lane from the rest of the lanes for about a quarter of a mile. There's a reason for that. Unless you have a sports car, you're not going fast enough at that point to merge safely with the rest of the freeway. The solid line is there to tell you not to cross it. Yes, I know it's not a double yellow line, but you're not supposed to cross any solid line on the roads...
