Psychosowhatnow? [Oct. 14th, 2002|07:43 pm]

I was over at a friend's house this evening, and her child has chicken pox. Now:

1) I had chicken pox already.
2) The kid didn't touch me, cough on me, sneeze on me, or anything like that.
3) I know for a fact that it takes 1-2 days for it to incubate before you show any symptoms.

And yet, my skin itches...

That's just annoying.

Actually I think if you had it as a kid you were probably innoculated so you should be fine...

Yeah, I know

I knew I wasn't going to get chicken pox, but that's part of what made the itching so annoying. The fact that it wasn't actually caused by anything, other than my own mind...

Chicken Pox & Memory

My first guess would be that it's just the traumatic memory of itching sensations you aren't allowed to scratch, but the thought crossed my head that just because you're immune to something doesn't mean that your body doesn't react to it. Perhaps the itching feeling is the immune system's "memory" of a similar attack, and only reacted minutely to another exposure. And it is possible for older people to get shingles.
